About Us
Sherwood Machinery Pty Ltd is a family business run by Greg and Di Joice with loyal, dedicated and long-time committed staff (half of which have been with the company for over 40 years each). We have a long agriculturally connected history, having started as a farming and grazing business back in 1959. From commercial cattle and sheep, to the growing of food crops, to running a stud cattle operation of Santa Gertrudis and Brahman cattle and later becoming the largest Appaloosa and Palouse Pony Studs in Australia. From there began the development of weeding equipment manufacture back in 1980, trialing in-house designed equipment and field trialing in conjunction with Monsanto to produce the first of Australia’s Rope Wick Applicators, marketed as Sherwood Wipe Out Rope Wick Applicators. Sales were supported by field days in 3 states and a dealer network of over 400 dealers nationwide. Thus started the early stages of the highly respected agricultural equipment manufacturer that Sherwood Machinery Pty Ltd has become today.
From those early days of weeding equipment Sherwood began manufacturing other agricultural items like grader blades, slashers, post hole diggers, hay handling equipment, stock yard fencing, crushes, log splitters and more.
With the introduction of ROPS legislation into NSW and followed by other states, to mandate the fitting of ROPS frames to tractors, Sherwood embarked on developing ROPS designs for a variety of tractor brands and models and initially had them tested by government authorities in Victoria. Distance being a problem Sherwood set up the first non-government Testing Station on its premises at Bundanoon, and became registered as an Australian Standards Testing Station with NATA. Since then Sherwood has developed hundreds of ROPS and FOPS designs for Agricultural Tractors and Industrial equipment for use in Australia and exports to Asia, Pacific Islands, New Zealand and the USA. Sales of ROPS has been mainly through both Australia’s Largest ROPS distributor and Agricultural Spare Parts company, BareCo in Ingleburn NSW, and the second largest ROPS distributor, Flatford/Vapormatic (which existed at the time of high sales volumes to NSW and Victoria). Sales of ROPS and FOPS continues through BareCo, our own dealer network and with other Australian agricultural and industrial equipment Importers and suppliers.
Sherwood Machinery Pty Ltd continues to be a family run company, and continues to be innovative and adventive in its pursuits. For over 4 years Sherwood engaged in a franchise to manufacture TimberCrete, a very unique building product with amazing fire proof properties following devastating bush fire losses and high rise building cladding fires throughout Australia and overseas. With insufficient take-up of the product Sherwood decided not to renew a further contract with the franchise holder. However, in the meantime Sherwood produced a cladding product for a huge Multinational company based in Melbourne, and developed a moulding / manufacturing technique for producing a sound proofing item to be used in railway tunnels in NSW and WA. Other innovative products developed over the years have included a sandstone block slicing/cutting machine and a hydraulic bending machine to handle RHS sizes up to 125 x 100 mm profiles (when most machines only handle 50 x 50 mm profiles), horse racing barriers, hydraulic hose reels for the NSW Rural Fire Service vehicles and much more. Innovation is only a part of what we do. From one-off items to high volume repetitive manufacturing—we face your challenges.
Sherwood Machinery Pty Ltd continues to manufacture a wide range of Agricultural, Industrial and Commercial equipment for sale within Australia and overseas. We still supply spare parts for equipment manufactured over 40 years ago—who else can make such claims! We value our customers and endeavour to provide the highest quality product and the most reasonable pricing, verified by the many repeat customers who won’t go elsewhere, and we thank them for that loyal patronage.
We value our small volume local customers just as much as our major distributors and encourage our locals to enquire about solutions to their needs no matter how small or large.
